Global Story Cafes

We're delighted to have had the opportunity to work with Queen Mary University of London on a series of Global Story Cafes. These brought Waltham Forest residents together with our team of refugee storytellers and local volunteers, to share stories about migration, home and belonging.

We hosted three informal cafes in our home borough of Waltham Forest: one women-only event at Hoe Street Central Bank, a cafe with Sixth Form students from George Monoux college and Heathcote School, and a third at Priory Court Community Centre.

Our final cafe was at the fabulous Migration Museum Project in Lambeth. As well as great stories, our cafe participants were treated to some of our trademark global cuisine.

In the run-up to the cafes we held a series of story-making workshops, with the help of our friends Phosphoros Theatre, storyteller Jumana Moon and theatre maker Sue Mayo.

The workshops were a chance for refugees and local residents to get together, have fun and learn some new skills as we prepared for the story cafes. And, of course, we always ate together so that we could share our love of food.

Many thanks to the Centre for Public Engagement at Queen Mary University for their support.
