Stories and Supper emerged from a seed of an idea two years ago, as many non-profits do. We have established ourselves as an organisation that challenges the negative headlines about refugees, while bringing people together over delicious food. We are incredibly lucky to still be here and to have received grants to continue growing.
This short film from the brilliant Waltham Forest, Borough of Culture, introduces the story of one of our top chefs, Shahnaz, which she describes as she creates her famous aubergine curry.
We have an excellent core of volunteers, participants and associates who support the work we do towards our aims - a positive narrative of migration, alongside a more welcoming and supportive environment for those who need to make the journey. In light of the tragic news that came out on Wednesday, of 39 people dying in a lorry container in Essex, it is so hard not to feel anger and exasperation at the state of our governing laws. At Stories & Supper, we work hard to reverse the negative press surrounding migrant struggle. This is your opportunity to take a stand and join our strategic team to create and bring about change.
Can you help us with the next stage of our journey?
We are currently a Community Interest Company with two Directors, with an informal group steering our decisions along with us. One of our Directors will be standing down at the end of the year, so this is an opportunity to engage people with experience of both strategy and migration, to formalise this important part of our organisation.
We would like to engage a team of people who care greatly about our mission and have experience in any of these areas:
Overseeing the running of small enterprises
Marketing and PR
We are looking for fill the following voluntary roles:
Steering Group Member: an informal volunteer role, feeding into decision making at quarterly meetings
Director: taking formal responsibility for the community interest company that we are.
Treasurer: also a member of the steering group. This role could also be undertaken by a director.
You can find out more about the roles here.
Interested? Please complete this form, and if you wish send a CV or similar to firstname.lastname@example.org. Deadline: Wed 6 Nov. Please also do forward this on to anyone who you think may be interested in working with us.
There will be a group meeting online to answer any questions you have on Wed 6 Nov, then we will arrange a 1-to-1 conversation after that.
We aim to have our team in place by early December.
